New belvedere inaugurated at ‘Ghajn Damma’ in Xaghra 2012-01-23
This morning, the Xaghra Local Council officially inaugurated the new belvedere which was built in Church Street, in the area, known locally as ‘Ghajn Damma.’
This belvedere is one of several major infrastructural projects that has been carried out during the last few months by the Xaghra Local Council.
This site is constructed on one of the strategic zones found in Xaghra, which is renowned for the spectacular views that it enjoys of the rural Gozitan countryside, stretching down to Marsalforn Bay.
The belvedere was inaugurated during a short ceremony which included a speech about the development of ‘Ghajn Damma’ by Gozo historian Mgr Joseph Bezzina and other speeches by Austin Walker, the Chairmand of MEPA, Architect Edward Scerri and Xaghra Mayor Joe Cordina.
The Xaghra Primary School’s choir as well as a number of the Xaghra residents also participated in the event.
The belvedere was blessed by Xaghra Archpriest Mgr Carmelo Refalo.
This project was partly financed by the Urban Improvement Fund administrated by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority (MEPA).
